Tannin-based inhibitive pigment for sustainable epoxy coatings formulation

Calcium tannate was synthesized, characterized, and dispersed into an epoxy coating as inhibitive pigment. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) employed to monitor the anti-corrosive performance of formulated with as-prepared pigment after exposure salt spray chamber. Reference coatings commercial calcium phosphate unpigmented were also evaluated for comparison reasons. EIS results showed that pigmented has higher impedance 21 days compared reference coatings, either or coatings. XPS analysis a deeper understanding action towards corrosion protection verified incorporation molecules in protective film formed on steel substrate under coating.
